The Berlin food scene is cooking up more pop up events than ever before. Pop-up dinners are one-time food events that offer guests a taste of something different. It’s either an unexpected location, an unique menu or somehow an experimental eating experience.
There is a new pop up dinner series called “Futterei” at Griessmühle in Neukölln and lucky me experienced the very first edition. For all of you who are familiar with the place, you’ve probably been there on a warm summer night and had some cold drinks with fantastic music. Now imagine that: You’re planning to head out for a night filled with great food, chilled drinks and somewhere to move your hips. Griessmühle has is all. On every 3rd Friday each month, you can enjoy a mouth-watering 3-course meal prepared by the most talented chefs, food entrepreneurs and famous food trucks in Berlin.
For the first edition the team from Bunsmobile showed up with their famous yellow truck and worked their magic on a tasty 3-course meal. To give you an impression, here is the entire menu with three different options for the main dish.
Asparagus, capers, sauce gribiche
Spicy guacamole cheeseburger, medium-rare Brandenburg free range beef, cheddar cheese, buns ketchup and chipotle mayo
Crispy fried pork patty, very meaty, spicy mayo, pickles
Veggie option: fried mountain cheese, apple & fennel salad, xeres vinaigrette
Maple syrup tartelette
Turning street food into a fine dining experience is an amazing idea that I highly approve. The dinner experience is also accompanied by great selected wines and the hosts are happy to give you recommendations. The next one will be on the 20th May, hosted by Futterei x Chai Wallahs. Chai Wallahs serves some of Berlin’s best naan breads and Indian-style street food variations. The menu will be revealed soon, make sure to book your table in advance.
